Soil Carbon Sequestration in Arid and Semi-Arid Regions - Session 1
Convener: Shachar Baram, ARO/Volcani
Arid and semi-arid regions are among the most vulnerable ecosystems to desertification, land degradation, and climate change. These regions face challenges such as low soil organic carbon levels, limited water availability, and fragile soil structures. Soil carbon sequestration, a vital tool for mitigating desertification, offers the potential to enhance soil fertility, improve water retention, and stabilize degraded landscapes. However, understanding and managing soil carbon dynamics in drylands remain critical to developing effective strategies for land restoration and resilience.
