How to Guarantee the Sustainability of Renewable Energy Corridors: Linking Climate, Trade, and Peace in the Middle East

Conveners: Nadav Tal and Peleg Gottdiener, EcoPeace Middle East

Renewable energy corridors and sustainable trade routes offer the potential to transform drylands into thriving centers of economic and geopolitical stability. Using the vision of the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) as a framework, EcoPeace panelists will discuss the integration of Gaza and Haifa ports into a India-Gulf-Europe trade network underpinned by renewable energy exports and advanced rail infrastructure. The proposal envisions a seamless flow of energy and goods, with renewable energy driving rail-powered trade routes that connect the Gulf to Europe via strategic hubs in Gaza and Haifa. The presentation will emphasize the transformative nature of the initiative from a geo-political, security, climate and economic perspective and discuss what measures, technologies, policies and governance should be in place to protect the unique environments that the corridor crisscrosses.

The panel discussion will feature:

  • H.E. Frederic Journes, Ambassador of France to Israel
  • Ran Peleg, Diplomat and Director of the Middle East Economic Relations Department, Head of the IMEC Initiative, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Israel
  • Yair Rubinstein,  Transmission Systems Specialist, Ex-VP of Business Development at INGL (The Israeli Natural Gas Transmission Company)
  • Ms. Sharon Bengi, Deputy Director, EcoPeace Middle East
